Dates and Activities:
Week 1 – June 3rd– 7th Gardening: All things grow! We’ll have a gardening center for the kids. This week we will be using soil and seeds to plant. The children will be watering plants with spray bottles and watching them grow!
Week 2 – June 10th– 14th Water Exploration: We’ll be incorporating dramatic play with a car wash. Kids will get to try out water painting and water table play. We’ll be talking about water, how it feels and what it does.
Week 3 – June 17th– 21st Travel: The children will be "packing up" in preparation for travel! We’ll also be creating the type of transportation we would use, for example if we travel by train – we’ll create a train!
Week 4 – June 24th– 28th Farm Animals: This week will be all about discovering farm animals. The kids will be creating a barn, learning about where animals live and creating some great crafts that include our favorite furry friends. Join us for some Old MacDonald!
Week 5 – July 1st– 5th Food!We’ll spend the week learning about food. Using play food, cups, and plates. Playing restaurant with friends and more. We’ll get adventurous and try different types of food like sweet and sour and talk about healthy food choices. There will be some great food art and chances for kids to help serve up snack time!
Week 6 – July 8th– 12th Insects: It’s time for the wonderful world of bugs! Children will “dig in” this week by finding (toy) insects in sensory tables filled with dirt. We’ll explore an ant farm and make some buggy crafts, including a milk carton caterpillar!
Week 7 – July 15th– 19th Shapes and Colors: This is a great week for shape and color recognition! We’ll work with children to match shapes and colors and learn about the science behind color. Kids will experiment with mixing food colors with droppers to make new colors. We’ll have some terrific shape art for the kids to work on this week.
Week 8 – July 22nd– 26th Zoo Animals: It’s a week at our “Gymboree Zoo”! We’ll be using boxes and helping the kids to create a play zoo, take turns being zookeeper and learn all about zoo animals. We have some great zoo books, songs, games, and crafts for our zoo animal theme.
Week 9 – July 29th– August 2nd Automobiles / Transportation: This week we are exploring different automobiles and types of transportation. We’ll be making cars, using our toy cars on our “street” carpets and playing red light green light, stop and go.
Week 10 – August 5th– 9th All About Me! A week devoted to your little one learning about themselves. For art, we’ll create self-portraits using mirrors and drawing what we see (to be framed and sent home). We’ll be playing house, practicing our body parts and working in dance!
Week 11 – August 12th– 16th Building: This is a great week for building! We’ll have oversized building blocks to build and demolish. Games and activities with legos and blocks will be explored. We’ll be incorporating dramatic play using our hard hats and reflector vests to wear while we build.
Week 12 – August 19th– 23rd Music: Explore different musical instruments and movements! We’ll be learning the names of each musical instruments and how they sound. Kids will be marching in our very own marching band class "parade"!
Week 13 – August 26th– 30th Pets: This week we will have a class pet! We will learn to take care of our class pet (a goldfish). Each child will get a chance to feed the fish, learn to clean a fish bowl by using our sensory table, water, soap, and sponge to take turns cleaning our fishbowl and more! For art, we’ll be making an aquarium with plastic wrap, paper plates, and paper fish.
